STREET TANGO

Just finished “De-classifying” the Street Tango by Piazzolla.Its a bit messy towards the end. But I think its awesome =P.

Took me months to finish it. Around two months. Mostly because I was lazy. Well it took me time to bake the idea and grow it. Its not a real piano thats heard in it. Garage band has a way of making pianos not so fake, yet not real. In the near future I’m going to record a Solo Piano Interpretation, A Duet Piano interpretation and the piano for this track.

I received the Adjudicators Report from the Singapore Music fest. This is what they wrote.

Albert Tiu

Still waters-The 2nd time of the melody had better sound pronunciation and projection and especially in octaves. Perhaps  attention to melodic sound can be more constant, as well as shaping,so that the water don’t sound vertical and  punched out. There was a good harmonic development and you obviously feel sincerely for this music.

Nostradamus-This kind of music is not bad,perhaps you should explore more serious music. You can learn more from the  study of music that have some more artistic nature.

Chopin-There was a sense of awareness of what this music is about. However, it needs to be backed up with some serious technical work in the left hand. Perhaps not too fast and no faking or cheating.

S.Joplin-Sometimes felt awkward with miss notes here and there, this needs more organisation.

A.Sleptsova

Still waters-You were musical and expressive in this piece. But some wrist tension prevents your octaves from a total  technical proficiency:sound(as today) often becomes “locked” as a result. Work on eliminating  your arm   tension, also it will allow you to be more at ease with your intentions.

Nostradamus-You crafted a good sense of dram here. But some technical limitations occured today. You are a good communicator, Samuel! Very expressive ending indeed!

Chopin-Good tempo,but the texture needs more clarity and unity of hands!Plenty of wrong notes(mostly in right hand) also occurred today. Left hand was more clear than right hand overall! Don’t forget-the melody is the priority in every piece of music!

Joplin-Some good stylistic and characteristic elements were present. You need to improve the overall textural clarity and  technical security and thoughts.

Thats all. Some comments were negative,some positive but mostly educative. I may not have gotten a surprising or excellent result in this attempt at the Performer’s Festival. But I’ve learnt a handful of things.

Using this information,I’m going to “try” to knock their socks off in KK. Its extremely close.

Lets talk about time shall we.

Time is a component of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify the motions of objects. Time has been a major subject of religion, philosophy, and science, but defining it in a non-controversial manner applicable to all fields of study has consistently eluded the greatest scholars.

In physics as well as in other sciences, time is considered one of the few fundamental quantities. Time is used to define other quantities – such as velocity – and defining time in terms of such quantities would result in circularity of definition. An operational definition of time, wherein one says that observing a certain number of repetitions of one or another standard cyclical event (such as the passage of a free-swinging pendulum) constitutes one standard unit such as the second, is highly useful in the conduct of both advanced experiments and everyday affairs of life. The operational definition leaves aside the question whether there is something called time, apart from the counting activity just mentioned, that flows and that can be measured. Investigations of a single continuum called spacetime brings the nature of time into association with related questions into the nature of space, questions that have their roots in the works of early students of natural philosophy.

Among prominent philosophers, there are two distinct viewpoints on time. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe, a dimension in which events occur in sequence. Time travel, in this view, becomes a possibility as other “times” persist like frames of a film strip, spread out across the time line. Sir Isaac Newton subscribed to this realist view, and hence it is sometimes referred to as Newtonian time. The opposing view is that time does not refer to any kind of “container” that events and objects “move through”, nor to any entity that “flows”, but that it is instead part of a fundamental intellectual structure (together with space and number) within which humans sequence and compare events. This second view, in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz and Immanuel Kant, holds that time is neither an event nor a thing, and thus is not itself measurable nor can it be travelled.

Temporal measurement has occupied scientists and technologists, and was a prime motivation in navigation and astronomy. Periodic events and periodic motion have long served as standards for units of time. Examples include the apparent motion of the sun across the sky, the phases of the moon, the swing of a pendulum, and the beat of a heart. Currently, the international unit of time, the second, is defined in terms of radiation emitted by caesium atoms (see below). Time is also of significant social importance, having economic value (“time is money”) as well as personal value, due to an awareness of the limited time in each day and in human life spans.

Is time linear? I don’t think so.It doesn’t go easy on you. So I think you shouldn’t go to easy on it as well.

Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan(28), died last year,December. He was the drummer of Avenged Sevenfold. An American metal band.

Jimmy was one of the best drummers of the world. He was also a side vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist for the band. Mainly, he was the composers of the songs that they right. But now that he’s left, we don’t know what kind of songs they will be writing.

Their first two albums were obviously based on heavy metal. That made them stereotyped. But their fourth and self titled album made a big change. They stopped heavy metal and went on to great rock music.

Their most notable music are “Seize the day”,”Afterlife” and newest single “Nightmare”.

Playing slowly has helped me gain stability in the pieces which a stumble on. It also quickly helps me to learn a piece rather quickly.

My year end exam starts on 18th of OCT and end on the 30th and my Theory Exam is also at the last day of the exams. I just hope I have nothing to take on the 30th in school so I can take my theory exam.

This year has so far been, the busiest year of my life. I’m sure there will be others.

Oh yeah, My exams pieces are Street Tango by Piazzola , Scherzo in E by Mendelssohn and Sonata in D k284 by Mozart.

Google has nice service. Without it, most of my projects would be dead. I wouldn’t be able to find anything I need. So my thought is Apple : Best computer. Microsoft: Best Gaming(xBox HEHEHE) and Google: Best search engine.

My piano string broke. Its a rare situation but I do think that I might be going to harsh on my piano. Some people played piano all their lives and never heard of a broken string.
